Update from Pastor Oscar James from Hope Center Jamaica on Hurricane Melissa Relief
update from Jamaica
On October 28, Hurricane Melissa made history in the most devastating way. For the first time in recorded history, a Category 5 storm struck the island of Jamaica.
Cutting across the western region with catastrophic 185 mph winds, the storm has left a trail of unimaginable destruction. The destruction is absolute. A relentless storm surge created catastrophic flooding, leaving layers of mud in its wake decimating what were once vibrant towns.
The aftermath is heartbreaking:
48 confirmed lives lost across the region.
Over 70% of the island remains without power, weeks after the storm.
Billions of dollars in estimated damage, with infrastructure crumbled and homes destroyed.
Families are currently displaced, lacking basic shelter and sanitation.
The initial shock is over, but the crisis is just beginning. We are mobilizing to provide life-saving aid to the hardest-hit communities in the west. We cannot do this alone.
LETS HELP REBUILD!
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Portable generators to restore electricity to clinics and emergency shelters. Starlinks will allow for these hard hit areas to have communication with the outside world.
POWER GENERATION + COMMUNICATIONS
Lumber, zinc, tarps, nails, screws, and tools to help families clear the mud and rebuild their homes.
BUILDING MATERIALS
Clean water, non-perishable food, flashlights, solar lights, etc.
LIFE ESSENTIALS
The people of Jamaica are resilient, but they should not have to face this historic tragedy alone. Your donation, no matter the size, translates directly into a roof over a family’s head or a warm meal for a child.
Together, we can help Jamaica , Land we love!
